I really enjoyed studying Science in school and advancement in different kinds of technology is really interesting and exciting. However, things like Cloning, GMfoods, nuclear technology, and many other possibly dangerous technology needs to be thought about before starting to use.

Nature is a wonder, and many technological breakthough were found by actually analyzing nature, and so the technology that followed went along with the natural world. Yet, when people started to find ways to alter nature just to facilitate the human life, thats when things started to go wrong.

There are radioactive materials found in nature, but it is one thing to know that it exists and another to manipulate and make a more refined radioactive substances to make power plants and weapons.

Same with manipulating DNA: why do people have to bother with changing the DNA in a plant so that it is more resistant to caterpillars? If the DNA changed through natural selection, it's ok because it was meant to be. But changing the DNA just to suite our need is not ok, and besides, no one is for certain if it is truly safe or not.

Which reminds me of Steiner. If you've studied education, I think you've heard of him. He also wrote an essay dealing with what cows are being fed. He made predictions that if you keep feeding cows what it's not suppose to eat (like meat), then there will be serious problems with the Cow's health. It tuns out that he was right. The out break of BSE (mad cow's disease) tell us that cows are being fed food that were made from other cows and livestock. It's against their nature to eat its own kind, and we're facing a serious threat because of that (and many exporting countries claim that it's not a threat...).

All new technologies should be discussed: have philosophers of ethics, science and law discuss the pros and cons of the new technology before it's put into use because once mischief is done, you can't rewind the time... oops.gif
