I love retro gaming. I bought a Sega Megadrive a while ago, and I seem to play on it more than I do on my PS2.

My favourite megadrive games are:

Puggsy
Flashback
Alladin

Also, I got some pretty cool old ps1 games:

Abe's Oddysee
Abe's Exodus
In Cold Blood.

Anyone else gone all retro?
rev79
I never stopped being retro. Games I'll never get tired of, even though I beat them eons ago:

The Legend of Zelda
Super Mario 1, 2, 3
Castlevania
King's Quest 1-6
Police Quest 1-4
Bionic Commando
Deja Vu

That's just a few that I still play. Today's games just piss me off- too many options and controls. Not to mention the routine of shoot-em-ups are getting very tiresome.
ley-adam.99
Yeah, most have amazing graphics but shit gameplay. The oldies are the best for gameplay. I never had a SNES, maybe I should pick one up.
freedom_mumia
Hell yeah Police Quest kicks ass. Can't stop play'n those old games cuz they don't ever get old.

OMG...

what about pong them????
ley-adam.99
You have convinced me, I'm off on ebay!
ota
If you consider a PS1 a "classic", why are you against Bush? That motherfucker set so high exportation prices here, that having a PS1 is a gift of God, I have it emulated in my computer, which I bought sweating blood, for they are four times what you pay in the USA!
Classic is the NES! (which by the way, still alive after playing with it for over 13 years!)
Excite Bike
Mario 3
Baloon Fight
Battle City
THEY PWN!
ley-adam.99
Well, for a start I'm from the UK, where PSone's are pretty cheap.
Also, I called the game a classic, not the console.
RENNEGADE
where are my final fantasy fans?
naz4viper
not here!

i love all types of platform games..
been playing a lot of mario64 lately on my n64 emulator
RENNEGADE
Dont platformers get boring after a while? and by the way, mario 64 is not really and old skool game.
blAHchYd

The mario games were good for a while, but after a while......
RAGEist
Has anyone mentioned sonic yet? He rocked!
ley-adam.99
Lol, gotta love sonic...and tails...and knuckles. smile.gif
RENNEGADE
Mega man anyone?
blAHchYd
Mega Man's awesome. Everyone one of em. I haven't played the Mega Man 3d world games though. I hope to in the future though even though they ain't old

Zelda 1 and 2 for the NES are fuckin awesome, still to this day. Zelda 2 has updated graphs on the Zelda Collectors Edition disk for the Gamecube

All Mario games are waaay cool. Even that fledgling one, Wrecking Crew.

I have Guerrilla Warfare and that game is just straight FRESH. You have to be the hero which is Che Guevara and defeat the Evil which looms ahead. The game is really short, but it's cool because it kinda tells the story of Che between levels, showing nice cg images of the great Hero who is Che Guevara. Over in Japan, where it originated, it was just called, "Che" and released in Arcades before hitting the consoles. I'd like to see the Arcade Cab that was all Che'd out, it'd be fuckin DANK. The game plays like that vert shooter, Commando.

Marble Madness is always fun and tough as shit.
Every Sonic game is great, and I played all of em xcept Sonic R. Sonic Jam, too, but that doesn't count since it's just a collection of Genesis Sonic games. Oh wait, just remembered another....Sonic 2 for the Sega Master Sys. It's almost exactly like Sonic 1 though, which i did play and liked.

METROID!! Every Metroid game is a fucked up challenge that never loses its touch. Plus the hero is a chick, a big plus

Dr. Mario was always fun, but not for long though. I get frustrated like a priest in a boys locker room around pool time. If you ever get the chance to play the GBA WarioWare, there's a fucked up version of it called Dr. Wario and it's the same game, but with Wario graphs instead of Mario

The new Mario Pinball Land for GBA kicks much groin. Talk about hard. That and the Sonic Pinball Party game for the GBA which is harder to find 'cause it was a Limited Edition and it ain't been printed again ever since

All castlevania, kirby and Gradius games are fun as fuck to me.

Mortal mothafuckin Kombaaaat...every one of them has been a fuckin treat and a half to play. I can't wait to get some extra cash to get Deception, the brutal bloodfest still holds a place in my heart.

Excitebike, Paperboy, RC Pro Am parts 1 and 2, Super Off-Road, BOMBERMAN (if you haven't tried it, you're missing out on some fun ass times)....i can find em all today for only 3 dollars a piece too.

R-Type....every R-Type was cool and not as tough as the Gradius series, but unreal similar. Final R-Type for the PS2 is the last one that's ever gonna be made. It features over 1oo ships to use with the biggest selection of weapons a side scrolling hori. shooter has ever seen. I hear there'a bunch of great shooters for the Saturn I should be picking up.

told ya i'd be back... grin.gif

Whatever happen to 3DO? Seemed like an awsome console, I played a couple of games on it both were awsome looking games, never heard of it since. Do they still sell 3DO, and games for it?
ErNeSt
Nah the 3DO died a death, never really became popular at all. You can probably pick one up on ebay with some games i expect.

I got that used for the PC. best $30 I've spent in a while.
ley-adam.99
Amazing game. Just been on it again. I loves you ff7!
RAGEist
Have you heard about the movie they're making based on it? Advent Children it's called. There's also going to be a shooter made from Vincents point of view, and a cell phone RPG (yeah, what the fuck?) based on it.
somasoul
I was playing FF7 and I had like 24 hours in it. I went into this cave with some ladders and slides and stuff each one led to some different power-up. I went down one of the slides and I had to fight this boss. Once I defeated the boss character I was magically whisked away out of the cave. I decided to go back in to pick up a couple powerups that I had missed and I could never get back out. Because of where I saved my game I couldn't go back to a previous save without being in the cave. I was stuck! I've since learned to always use two blocks to save that way I'd always have an "Out" if anything happened like that again. I never picked up FF7 again and 8 really let me down.
RAGEist
I'm fairly sure there's always a way out, although it isn't always obvious. I got all of my characters to level 99 once, before realizing that I forgot to talk to an NPC previously that would allow me to get the ultimate magic items that I'de been trying so hard to get. It sucked lol
Moremi
Some of these games are really old skool tongue.gif

Super Mario Brothers
Sonic
Donkey Kong
Pac Man
Metroid
Tetris
Parsec

They were singing something about how many red hot peppers you have in your pot or somethin' and when we got to like 100... they were like dang it.. you gotta stop jumpin. ermm.gif

what can i say, i'm a double dutch diva.
Moremi
That's a cute story zap laughing.gif I play dodge ball and hopscotch with my nieces all the time. But I can’t jump rope, I’m too tall now ermm.gif I can get low and turn the rope though. But I swear back in the day, I was a diva. People used to jump rope to my name ... cuz I have 5 middle names laughing.gif

I heard of kick the can too but I had no idea what it was. I know what it is now and it actually sounds a lot more entertaining and organized than the way we played tag. If we had a jail and a can there probably would have been less fights tongue.gif

Anyway, you don’t need a game console to play some of these games Mars. If you ever need to kill time, check out:

Duck Hunt

And there’s hundreds of games here.

Has anyone ever played Ayo (Mancala)? This game is really old skool. It's one of my favorite games.
zapatista
Mancala... hmm.gif Is that that game that has a little board with dents in it and you move your little colored stones around on it? Cause I would see that game, but never played it. Looks complicated... is it?

Dodge ball was always cool... but then... never failed la familia would get together and the kids would play dodge ball and you always have that one relative who's got like some kinda vendetta blink.gif and you think you're just having a good time then all of a sudden there are crying kids and broken bodies everywhere.. cry.gif

laugh.gif Ok, so maybe it wasn't THAT bad, but close, I swear my cousin Tito was serioulsly trying to take me out. unsure.gif

And I understand being to tall... blackhair.gif I'm not even THAT tall but I was having to jump kinda hunched over... made the mistake of standing to straight once and got whacked in the face with a beaded jump-rope. head_hurts_kr.gif

That's hilarious about jumping to your name... hahaha laughing.gif

annnyhooo awesome site you linked too.. THAT'S gonna kill some time f'sho.

for the rest of us Stickball, Hopscotch and double dutchers... here's a cool site.

Yeeeea, yeeea, now we're talking. Mancala is very cool, but can't ever get anybody to play. Learned dominoes on a long train trip years ago, from an older couple traveling home south. Talkin' about "Sent ya to tha bone yard! Go on, nah, see what you can find there..." We played them several times a day. Always kicked our butts. Watch out for them preachers and wives...

This had me on the floor!!

I have just, however, reexperienced my childhood wounding of never learning how to jump double-dutch. There just weren't enough Black girls in my elementary school, I guess. "Regular" rope I could go all day. Recently recorded a group of elders talking about, and singing, games from their childhoods -- ie the 30's and 40's. I heard a million names for the first time: a ball game called 1, 2, 3 O'Leary. And another called Heel Toe Stamp And Over. They had to do all these moves while bouncing the ball to a beat. No wonder old folks were always in good enough shape to catch our little misbehaving selves on the holidays!

It’s an ancient board game. The board looks like this:
user posted image
And has 12 pits. Six go the opponent and the other six go to you. There is an extra pit for each side that’s called the home pit. You can play with pebbles, seeds, nuts, marbles, whatever tongue.gif I use these really strange looking seeds that I got from my grandma. The object is to distribute the seeds to your side so that you have more seeds in your home pit. You go around the board dropping one seed in each hole and whenever you drop your last seed into your own pit, you take another turn. This goes on until all the seeds are distributed or until one side has no more seeds to distribute. The side with more seeds in the home pit, after they are counted, wins. Once you start playing, it’s not complicated at all.

More of why I don't like video games (mainly meaning not for kids)

QUOTE
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, roughly 1 in 6 kids is seriously overweight. The obesity epidemic is unfolding across the country and it's taking a serious toll on our children's health.

The dangers are real. Overweight kids often have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar, a triple threat that could add up to early heart disease, says Suruchi Bhatia, chief of the Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland, California. Bhatia has diagnosed many overweight kids — including one 8-year-old girl — with type 2 diabetes, a disease that used to be seen only in adults. The girl had also hit puberty already, another side effect of extra weight. In many ways, overweight kids are growing old before their time.

But don't blame yourself if your child is already heavy — after all, our culture is stacked squarely against you. Fast-food companies spend $3 billion a year on ads aimed at children, schools put soda machines in the hallways, physical education budgets have been cut, and computer games are quickly replacing kickball and tag as favorite childhood pastimes.
Moremi
I understand what you're saying Mars but I think obesity and lack of physical activity is the result of poor parenting. Parents are buying the games and they should restrict the amount of time they are played. They should be involved in their kids day to day activities – what they eat and how they spend their time. Any toy can be misused. A lot of video games are not appropriate for young kids but there are some educational pc/video games too. I play Clue Finders, Reader Rabbit and Pajama Sam with my nieces and nephews tongue.gif They are strategy games that teach math, reading and problem solving. In my opinion and in the opinion of their parents the games have been very helpful and my nieces and nephews are very healthy and fit. I think parents just need to make better choices for their kids.
