Ren, you should've had a third option as the 'rap-rock' hybrid..I voted for rock, even though its about split down the middle these days for me.

Im down with alot more hip hop than I used to be, and as far as what I listen to more, its pretty even, but no contest really. Rock, metal, classic rock...some folk...(anything with a guitar, really) I find alot easier to get into.

I personally believe that Zack's solo album with be more hip hop based than rock, judging by the people he's collaborated with over the past few years. "March Of Death" had a rock-n-roll vibe, but essentially - it was still a DJ spinning the beat and not a guitar, bass and drum kit.
I think that a lot of Zack's fans on this site, who mightn't have heard tracks that Zack has released since he left RATM (other than "March Of Death") are expecting a more 'rock' project of some kind. I really don't think that this will happen. I've listened to the artists that Zack's collaborated with, and if he enjoys their music then I can't imagine he'd be going back to his "Inside Out" ways (I mean come on, that was 16 years ago!). Don't get me wrong, I reckon Zack will be angry on his album - but I also reckon he'll have a fair few chilled out tracks too.
I'm curious to see how this poll ends up, cause either way, some people on this site are probably not going to like the solo album. To me it's like the rockers look one way while the hip hoppers look another - but hopefully Zack tears the page down the middle.

^ I seriously believe that it'll be hip-hop based, cuz that's what it is, isn't it? Adding on to it, it's supposed to have a "scary" sound to it. This makes me think of a weirder version of March of Death. Still, rap or rock, I'll like it, cuz I like both. That's why I nulled my vote.

^ Yeah
No, I kid.
But rap isn't just plain stupid. The lyrics sometimes are stupid, yes. The arrangement of the music is also sometimes stupid, but that's sometimes the case with rock songs; how many rap songs do you know, anyway? Another question: how old are you?
I'm not trying to argue, just talking.

Well said Regilas, I agree..
Renegades....
I DEFINITELY think the album will be more hip hop based than Rock because Zack said it was going to be a hip hop album right??? Well, I won't totally rule out that there won't be any Rock on the album.. But, I think the album will be more Drum n Bass and Hip Hop mixed together than anything... ya know???
But, either way... I don't care if its more Rock or more Rap, or Hip Hop... I know I will enjoy it for sure.................

I can hardly play rap on the one station I know of, cuz it's low volume and it sorta sucks, anyway. Actually, I first got into rap thru RATM. After listening to it, I was way more open-minded about music than I had ever been. It opened both rap and rock for me, and got me into more than just that, but anyway.
The lyrics do get pretty bad, yeah. But what about Kid Rock? The one song I know of theirs completely sucks. No lyrics, just a bunch of weird sounds he keeps making. I've heard it thru MTV three times, and that's saying alot, considering I don't even have TV.
I'm not judging you by your age. I'd just like to know because I was 15 when I got into music. Before then, I was only into the Smashing Pumpkins. It's most likely that when you're 16, you're gonna be more varied in music than you are now. But then, I don't know you, so I don't really know.
And don't dedicate ALL of your time to music. There's more to do! I suppose not, though, considering you're only 15.

Tool and Misfits are both really great..... but ten minutes from now I could be on a Tori Amos kick.... few after fire up Wu Tang..... Mozart..... Irish traditional..... whatever..... I just go with what sounds good at the time..... and hey Reg, why no on the Jazz.... if you don't mind me asking that is....

Haha runninfree man, i agree with basically everything you said.
I dont hate rap, i actually have a fe records and like many songs, but i do hate today´s rap as i hear it in the radio, especially when i go to the United States. I also dislike the attitude that lots of rap singers have developed. In some cases it just turns out being lame and elitist, disrespectful.. trying to be "kewl". Bah... i hate "kewl" people. I know that not all the rap is about this though.
And YES, Kid Rock does suck! But ill have to target Eminem as the top of my hate list...
And new "punk" music (as in simple plan, good charlotte...) Good lord, they all suck (its just my opinion anyway)

Jun 28 2004, 05:45 PM
I like Eminem
Why no on the jazz? I hate it. Especially when I went to a college concert and heard the most horrible voice in California singing songs. Jazz seems like simply talking throughout the music. Rock keeps a rhythem(sp) going, and the lyrics go in with each other, and the singers carry a tune. For instance:
Rock song:
He had alot to say
He had alotta nothing to say
we'll miss him
we'll miss him
x2
Jazz song:
I'm going on the road to Indiana
when I stop by and ...
I hardly remember it, cuz the lyrics went by too quickly. Quicker than rap. Jazz also seems to have crappy beginnings and endings. It's as if the music switch was turned on for a while, then it was turned off again at the "end" of the song. It's like ending Know Your Enemy after Keenan's voice.
In conclusion: I hate jazz because of the overall. Once again, you may as well just talk during the song, cuz that's what jazz seems like. Those that sing in it may have good voices, but I simply think that those voices could use their talent on something else, maybe rock, or if they're more mellow, on folk-music.

Just for the record, Eminem likes Rage Against The Machine. He mentioned them in an article years back (The link is dead now...

). He also mentions them in one of his songs called "Just Don't Give A Fuck".
As for rap being crap; you just need to know what to listen to. You generally won't find good rap on the radio. I'd say start with Run-DMC's greatest hits CD, you want political hip hop go KRS-One's "A Retrospective" or if you like mellow stuff go to De La Soul's "Stakes Is High". Also check out Blackalicious and A Tribe Called Quest. If you think that DJ's are all about break beats and scratching, get yourself a copy of DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" album. Personally, this is what I predict Zack's album will come close to sounding like. I hope I've been helpful

Well, that's just your opinion. (Not attacking.)
Supposedly, though I have no source, cuz my brother Mantra (aka PsychoDeGrace) told me this. Anyway, he says that statistics showed in some article that more black people liked hip-hop and rap; and that more white people liked rock and metal.
It does sound true, but at the same time it sounds racist.

Jul 5 2004, 06:44 PM
Actually that doesn't suprise me at all!

I mean, in America the rap genre is still very much African-American based. Most rappers are black over there. Rock was developed mostly in America and England from middle-class white kids, so it's understandable to see why that hasn't changed much either...

I don't like what he sings about. I don't like his view on things or how he trys to portray himself. I also don't really like his voice to much either, It sounds to me very similar to lots of other rappers so I don't really see what makes him so special really.
