Sooner, at this rate. I'm seriously scared that I'm gonna get drafted by the time I'm eighteen.

I've heard some stuff here and there about this "draft" and it's looking pretty serious,.. the Suicide rate keeps increasing and the only way they wont need a draft, is if they pull out of Iraq, and I don't see that coming anytime soon, especially with Bush in power.

Sorry I'm late...

I am deeply sorry for you and everyone else who knew him, and him as well, of course. From what I read, he sounds like he must have been an extraordinary person, and you must be very happy to have known him. I don't think there's much I can say that will comfort you too much, but I will at least say this: whenever you see someone out in the streets protesting against this evil war, and for every single vote, counted or not, that was placed against this evil president, and for every single sign written asking to bring our troops home, and for every speech made against the war, they were all made for Jeramy and everyone else like him. He did not die alone. And for every person he helped, whether it be a hungry child in Iraq who didn't even know him, or a close friend at home who he meant everything too, that person, of which there are many (if what I read is true), will always remember him for that at least one great thing he did, feeding that hungry child, or helping that close friend. That article said he went because he wanted to help the Iraqi people. In that effort (even if it was used, at least in part, for the wrong war), he didn't fail. And the Iraqi people who he helped, as well the American people who he knew, will remember him.

There, I hope that ghelps some. I hope I'm not soundign too overly gushing with cheesiness and just making things worse.

No way, because sooo many people are joining right now, and our military has plenty of reserves to fill in the holes. We could invade the whole of Asia and we still wouldn't need a draft. Cause no army has ever had so many volunteers, not even World War Two; and we've never had so much success in our efforts to liberate the world before.

I'm sure you can tell I'm being sarcastic.

On the friendlier side, thanks for the complement, laugh.gif

I don't think the American Public will stand for a draft, in the current situation, to be honest. The blue states have been pushed too far already. Even the red states will balk at a draft, unless there is a drastic change that rallies support to war.

I'm not a fan of the draft (I know few seventeen and 11 month year old kids that are) But, if there were a draft, I would enlist. I have no desire to be a fortunate son.

This is the FiFTY-FOUR effect: (the loveable nemesis)
QUOTE(Grimer 54)
Society begets government. Anarchist theory is actually just a pseudo-intellectual state of denial, an idealistic illusion that can never be more than a wholly unfulfilled dream. Thus, it is a counter-productive measure that actually weakens, rather than improves the progress of society as government is inevitable in the maintenance of civilization. Therefore, it is infinitely more effective to pursue political upheaval through the system, rather then against the system. For despite all of its flaws, both Democracy and Capitalism are still rooted within the people themselves by rational and realistic means. That is not to say I advocate the status quo, but instead, a moral pursuit to right the endless wrongs brought on by the evils of human nature, via an unintimidated, undaunted, unmitigated spirit of liberty and justice for all, rather then the destructive hypocrisy of your so-called "revolution."

"I may disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it".
- attributed to Voltaire

I would feel awkward if all my friends got drafted and I didn't, so I know what you mean about not wanting to be a fortunate son.
