I met DJ Shadow tonight after his performance in the Quannum collective tour, here in New Orleans (the show was good, Lateef was tightest). After the show, he signed a few cds and such, then went behind stage for about 20 minutes until reappearing for more fan interaction. I saw a guy bust out his celly asking “Can you sign personalize this?” I looked at my memorabilia-less hands and thought “why not?” I grabbed for my phone and nudged up closer and pushed it in his grill.
“Can you sign this?” Shadow said “Yeah.” He handed it back to me with the sig and that was all, I was too shy to ask about the Zack De La album. Sorry… Haha, no. I asked him about the status of the De La Rocha album and he said, “Man, I don’t know” in a hesitant voice. “What about the three tracks you recorded?” “I really don’t know.” Pause. He continues, “I think he’s got a case of writer’s block or something like that. It’s like the same thing that broke up his former band” he said while penning album covers. “Yeah. Rage Against The Machine” I said nodding my head. Shadow smiled and said something to the effect of “yeah”. “Alright, thanks DJ Shadow” and I was on my way. Writers block? For 10 years?
This get's more and more confusing Didn't someone else meet Shadow recently and he said it would be out this year? Or have I lost track of time? This post has been edited by Moremi: Apr 23 2004, 04:51 AM -------------------- Efin ni iwa; o ma nru. \o/ |

i told you guys.
i've heard people say that the other band members forced or rushed zack into making those albums, and that they would have been better if the other bandmates would have just relax. i've also heard its the othe members fault for the split up not zacks. hell theres a possiblility that if zack had his way we'd still be waiting for evil empire to come out, how sad is that. this is the second story in 2 or 3 days that talks about how zack can't finish up a record, and it sounds like maybe vlad as getting a little upset about it too. i think zack just needs to put the damn album out, like we heard yesterday (if that person was real), zack thought the last 3 albums were rushed and didn't like em when they came out. but i'm pretty sure we can all agree they were pretty damn good. Just release the fucking thing for the love of god, its probably fine. -------------------- rip-92

looking at the above post, its difficult to remember when someone posted some good news about a new zack album. everyone got excited with the dj vlad stuff, and that turned out to be an unreleased rip off.
seriously though, when was the last time someone posted anything as remote as "a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend heard somewhere that just maybe it might be out by May 2005". this lack of good news is totally depressing. -------------------- When I heard Public Enemy for the first time, it was on the soundtrack for the movie “Less than Zero,” tucked between a Madonna song and some other ‘80s rehash. I was in a friend’s car, he put the soundtrack on and I thought, what is this junk? When it got to “Bring the Noise,” I had that kind of urgent reaction where you just had to stop what you’re doing. It sounded like breaking news.

In a way if it is true about the other members of the band forcing and rushing Zack to release the albums.. Then, I'm kinda glad it happened that way or we would never have any Rage material.. |

maybe he originaly thought that it was all done and would be out soon, now maybe zack is starting to stall and screw with stuff and shadow is starting to loose faith in it coming out anytime soon. to me reading the news it almost sounded like the shadow was dissapointed with it all.

I seriously doubt Shadow would say the album was coming out this year unless he KNEW it was done and ready to come out... Zack himself, has told people on this board that the album would be out 2003.. I think, the album is done, and the reason its not out, has nothing to do with writers block or Zack being a pain and not wanting to finish it, or get it perfect. I think it's out of his controle, that's just my opinion.
Waiting till the end... -------------------- Hey we got the PMA. Hey we got the PMA.

I think someone needs to kill big zack, so his management will release his stuff, post mortem.
heh, kidding. Though that may be the only way we ever see it, seems like. Kidding...uh...again. He'll release it when he's ready, and we'll all go crazy. I can wait, I've got other things going on. Good information. Glad the show was good. Now you need an autograph frim the man himself, and you'll have one hella' a cell phone. ...Im just saying, if we kill Zack, and make i tlook like a suicide, then sue courtney love, all his music will get realeased. Thats all Im sayin'... heh heh This post has been edited by Grimer 54: Apr 24 2004, 04:21 AM -------------------- This is the FiFTY-FOUR effect: (the loveable nemesis)
QUOTE(Grimer 54) Society begets government. Anarchist theory is actually just a pseudo-intellectual state of denial, an idealistic illusion that can never be more than a wholly unfulfilled dream. Thus, it is a counter-productive measure that actually weakens, rather than improves the progress of society as government is inevitable in the maintenance of civilization. Therefore, it is infinitely more effective to pursue political upheaval through the system, rather then against the system. For despite all of its flaws, both Democracy and Capitalism are still rooted within the people themselves by rational and realistic means. That is not to say I advocate the status quo, but instead, a moral pursuit to right the endless wrongs brought on by the evils of human nature, via an unintimidated, undaunted, unmitigated spirit of liberty and justice for all, rather then the destructive hypocrisy of your so-called "revolution." "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it". - attributed to Voltaire Still a sheltered idealist... but learning: This is no Oasis. |

The longer he has writers block the better. it means the more engaged with the final words he will be.
i have a life, and so can live it without the album. -------------------- Know Your Enemy
