i am very uneasy about student protests they tend to have a bcklash by ordanry pepole who have the veiw that they are working hard to pay the taxes for these students to go to uni and all they do is complain. i dont totaly agree with this veiw but i do see where it comes from and i have been inclined to it at time to time.

QUOTE(Fred @ Mar 26 2005, 01:47 PM) i am very uneasy about student protests they tend to have a bcklash by ordanry pepole who have the veiw that they are working hard to pay the taxes for these students to go to uni and all they do is complain. i dont totaly agree with this veiw but i do see where it comes from and i have been inclined to it at time to time. fred The idea is not that we are complaining to the tax payers, more so, we are securing our rights, our freedom of speech and all the while we are trying to enlighten the general public about what is going on. I do not mean to condescend in the least my brother, and i know you do not competely agree with the statement. Nontheless, it always kills me to hear that protesting is simply complaining and that the tax payers are the target. The tax payers have always been and will continue to be the targets if we let the current method of control spin the media which we distribute. How can we publically grip attention other than pamphlets and media consolidation? protests. I have talked to my senators and house representatives through emails and even an ex senator organized a shitty protest out here in Denver but he told me 3 days before it happened and thats chickenshit time. I told him that we need to organize with distinct strategies and events plotted in a logical and methodical manner to acheive the most influance and widespread aknowledgement that there is another way, and these senators and congressmen and presidents and even news broadcasters and so on... They dont have it, they dont talk about it and only the people here, the kids, we know the ideas. THey arnt even new ideas but they are rennovated for the year 200X whatever fucking year it was and is etc. The only way we will not feel powerless in a student or national protest is if we organize with two dozen people and network all over the areas with integrity and knowledge as our weapon, with truth staring those with bullets lodged in their heads, right in the face. sorry if this post was out of context and inappropriate but i missed this site. Whoever is MOD right now, sorry if i pissed you off. -- peace and love to all ma brothers and sisters especially zapatista!! -------------------- I WOULD RATHER DIE ON MY FEET THAN LIVE ON MY KNEES |

Ordinary people hear about a student protest and immediately think "hippies" and don't give it a second thought. -------------------- Don't step to the beats of all the false rebels

I think that modern protest is ineffective and should be rennoveated to fit modern day needs. More people drive now, more people watch television... Big business controls our cities, people are more focused on the "I" rather than a community. I think that sit-ins and picket lines have proven to be ineffective lately especially concerning the WTO and the War on Terror.
I really like this site Zapatatista gave us because you can network with students all over the world easily and wire organizations together and make a web to catch the spider in. Without a coherent message and goal, agreed on by all protesters and dissenters, there will be no movement only placid water that smells bad and makes people say "hippie". -------------------- I WOULD RATHER DIE ON MY FEET THAN LIVE ON MY KNEES |
