I for one don't like most rap music out there. It's mainly all about bitches and ho's and how 'bad' they are, and just talking over a beat, but so far I'm really liking Zack's stuff. Especially centre of the storm with roni size. I'm hyped for zack's album!

I've always been into rock (I mean, I grew up with rock) but I find that I appreciate rap a little bit more these days. Over the past year, I've really become a good fan of the Beastie Boys and De La Soul.
A lot of the genres of music I listen to is triggered by an urge inside me to discover, to find the soul in each sound. To me, music is about soul. Rage Against The Machine's music often made me get furious and make me feel alive. Music that gives you goosebumps, like on a cold day, is good music. You guys like my new Brecht quote? (see below) -------------------- "Do not be afraid of death so much as an inadequate life” - Bertolt Brecht

There's bad rap just like there's bad rock. Don't stereotype the whole genre. Most of the hip hop that get's air play is really bad. Try listening to: Public Enemy, The Roots, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5, Blackalicious and Common. There's so many positive rappers out there that don't justify statements like that. |

This will prob be ignored though like my others One of my fav emcees comes from Def Jux. Thats 'Aesop Rock'. Download Daylight by Aesop Rock and take a listen.... You've heard nothing like it.. -------------------- "Behold the white horse, remorse, never the case. hey truthaddict, although you can name a small collection of good hip-hop, i can name a mmuuuchh bigger collection of hiphop that is complete bullshit.., whether its gangsta rap, or pretty boy rap, or "smack my bitch up","gotta fuck some hunnies", "the pigs hate me", "cheated on my girlfriend with 11 prostitutes(or should i say freaks?) and 2 guys..", "i'm gonna chase my wife into the forest cut her throat and laugh", kinda shit, those are 3 very popular kinds of hip hop, that are full of bullshit and have nothing to do with anything anyone really cares about.., I like the other kind of hip hop.., the one with meaning?!, so that's one out of 4 things..(which isnt pure shit..), i dont like your odds here!!
It is stereotyping, but all Troy is talking about is whats played on the radio, right Troy? The mainstream bullshit, that some call hip hop, and should really be called hip pop. About renegades' comment, I agree with you, which is why Tool and RATM are 2 of my favourite bands... And Ashes in the Fall was my favourite Ratm song, for a very long time, same with Born of a Broken man....(forever awake he lies shaking and starving, praying for someone to turn of the light....)That is a fucking brilliant piece of poetry in that song... And for ashes in the fall, u know, sort of around about when Zack sings, "aint it funny how the factory doors close....." Awesome shit, "Hadda be played on a jukebox"does the same shit... -------------------- I can feel them pushing, I can feel them pulling I can feel them holding, I can feel them moving, I can feel them prying, I can feel them prodding, I can feel them breathing, I can feel them digging I can feel them stabbing, I can feel them scoping, I can feel them living, I can feel it, Consume, take in, plunging, plumbing, Instruments prying, aliens inside me, Tooling the machine, Intoxicating, Feel it unfolding, riddles in me |

I hate blind motherfuckers who don't listen or simply aren't intrested in listening to different genres of music. I see so many 12 year old kids who get ripped off buying pop rap and shit, it's a real shame. When I was their age, I was out buying Public Enemy's "Fear Of The Black Planet" and RATM's "Evil Empire" - CD's I still listen too now. Pop music don't stay.

guerrillainmate that's exactly my point. If you go strictly by what's on the radio you're going to think most hip hop is bullshit. Rap is going through a very bad phase. And as some people would argue that a lot of what's being played on the radio isn't rock. I would say a lot of that stuff you hear isn't fit to be called rap. Public Enemy put out a record not too long ago that didn't get any airplay where I live. If the radio and television were my only source of information, I might have missed out on a good record. The negative stuff get's more exposure but that doesn't mean there's more of it. All I'm saying is try looking to other sources for your information. Rapstation.com is pretty good.

I agree with you guys. btw, I saw def Jux mentioned. Respect that. El-P definetely, but anything by Company Flow- KRS-ONE-Public Enemy-(some)Kool Moe Dee-(some)Big Daddy Kane-Mos Def-Roots-Tone Def(check out "Clear 'em Out" f/ KRS)-and pretty much anyone else into consciousness expansion and politics. ALOT can be learned through lyrics and spoken word. Personnally I like everything from old punk to grundge to hip-hop. It really depends on the artist and the message. Nuff said.
