ILLITERACY

IT IS SAID THIS IS THE EASIEST WAY TO LEAD HUMANITY TO AN EARLY END

1. WHAT IS ILLITERACY ?

It is essentially the inabiity to read and write as well as, in no few cases, the inability to count mentally. Many people think that it is not really important while in fact, it has the very highest importance: it is a matter of life or death as we are about to see below. Essentially though, one can still be literate by being self-educated and this is needed as protection against:

1. Deseducation in schools and universities. 2. Plutocratic brainwashing. 3. Governmental abuse. 4. Medical malpractice. 5. Mass poisoning from food (e.g.: Aspartame...), water (poisoned) and poisoned air. 6. Being purposely misled to a potential disaster.

And these are only a few examples. A complete list would really be too long and especially scary. The main point to understand in all this however is that illiteracy is accomplished for a solid reason: To maintain the International Plutocracy in power so that it may with little or no difficulty DEPOPULATE US ALL . . . and I must say that so far, they are succeeding 100%.

2. IS ILLITERACY NEEDED ?

As a matter of fact, if you observe what is going on in various parts of the world you will immediately see that whenever the population is ignorant and deseducated, they have a very strong tendency to behave as obedient slaves who can be beaten, tortured and slaughtered as needed. Example: the United States where the governmment treats the "citizens" as dogs and has been doing that for two centuries and not only is this going on but that country is now attacking one country after the other. In addition, wonder of wonder, the U.S. terrorists call their victims "terrorists" while they claim to be "the victims"... Nothing wrong really with that because their "citizens" believe every word of it: They are "patriots", ready to be torrtured and killed for the greater wealth and power of the International Plutocracy. In other words, we can conclude that ILLITERACY is in fact a great, powerful way to enslave people, a way which - true enough - has been used for thousands of years to enslave people. We can never forget ancient Egypt and how the Pharaohs had full and complete power on their people... actually very good people but they had a tendency to view themselve as NON-THINKING slaves. As you can see, it was the same thousands of years ago as it is now in the miserable United Slaves. This even though they have the remarkable example of Paris (1789), Leningrad (1917), etc., where people were human enough - for instance in 1789 - to separate the useless head of the king from his unneeded body. And here, properly brainwashed people exclaim "Horror, decapitating a king". In other words, those imbecillic fools think that it is O.K. for a king (or for the queen of England) to slaughter millions of people but to kill those terrorist "leaders" that is too much! Can one wonder at this point why the world is soon to be Kaput? So, the main and greater reason why we must fight illiteracy is as a essential protecftion against the INTERNATIONAL PLUTOCRACY. As explained in other articles those guys NO LONGER need you alive: They need you DEAD and it is a lot easier to kill a non-thinking fool than a fully thinking person.

3. PAST EXPERIENCE

Nothing like reviewing past experience. Going back say, 70 years ago, and comparing it with today, we see an enormous difference ! For instance:

1. At that time, people REALLY wanted to learn things and be educated. 2. But now education is secondary while making money is a top priority. 3. Before, education was first and anything else was secondary. 4. Now education is for the birds and who wants to become a bird ? 5. Before, people wanted to behave properly, but now... 6. Now people want the "freedom" to misbehave. 7. And so on and on...

Let's be frank, EVERYBODY who is old enough (like 80 and up), will agree that the world is going to pot because NO DESEDUCATED, "FREE" WORLD, FILLED WITH GREEDY, SELFISH ANIMALS will be able to last much longer. If you want to be convinced of it, just observe the depopulation principles and the military build-up of the U.S.-Israel under the command of the International Plutocracy: They want and need to kill everybody and, judging by what we see, they are going to succeed faster than ever thought possible. And the reason for this is that thanks to illiteracy, the fools eat poisonous food, drink poisonous water (including poisonous RAIN WATER) and breathe poisonous air. In addition, they now get burned alive with White Phosphorus, gunned down, and so on. That is "freedom".

4. HOW IS IT BROUGHT ABOUT ?

As is known, one of the basic requirements for plutocratic forces to, first enslave the world and next to depopulate it, is to make sure that the masses have lost their ability to think and draw conclusions: Then people believe what they are told to believe. This is the reason why all the media is currently under plutocratic ownership and control. The perfection with which it is all done can be observed by the fact that people believe what they are supposed to believe. Under these circumstances the success of plutocratic forces is almost certain. The whole thing is accomplished as follows:

1. Mothers are secretly fed various sorts of poisons so that their newborn children have an impaired intellect. 2. Young people are deseducated all through school and university. 3. In addition, they are subjected to a constant brainwashing. 4. They grow up in a spirit of U.S.-style criminal freedom. 5. And end up as useless, mentally incapacitated individuals. 6. This actually is the phase ONE of depopulation . 7. In phase TWO (already all prepared) people will be placed in prison-busses. 8. Where they can die peacefully while being driven to incineration places. 9. However, we know now that extra-terrestrials are involved in all this. 10, But more will be told later if and when new facts are discovered.

More exactly, the matter of illiteracy is vastly more complicated than it seems at first and in addition, it is one of the essential parts of the Depopulation Agenda which, for whatever reason is suddenly urgently needed by the all powerful and wealthy International Plutocracy. Those guys have now taken full control of the U.S. and Israel and have started the final phase of depopulation. So just say your prayers and be ready for a painful death.

5. PRESENT ILLITERACY

Just observe around you how few people are worried by the fact that new generations are so ill-educated and even ignorant in the extreme. Yet, this is just the beginning as it is planned to grow worse and worse as is proven by the fact that in addition to the prison-busses, the U.S. has been building hundreds of huge prisons where people can be held without food and water until they die. And at this point, many do not even want to believe all that. In order to save the world, all that would actually be required is to reeducate properly everybody, not an easy task though, which would require at least 3 to 5 years. ONLY AFTER THIS can an armed revolution be considered. But in view of the wealth and power of the International Plutocracy, this is unlikely to be possible. Besides, if you consider how rarely the plutocracy is accused of anything, you can relax and wait for the system of illiteracy to facilitate killing us all.

6. FUTURE ILLITERACY

Thanks to the great success of the International Plutocracy in deseducating and brainwashing the masses, people are easy to mislead to their death. A great example is France where the present fascist leader is driving that country to a total disaster. True enough people are going on strike: So what? As long as the fascist French government remains in power, France will continue to be controlled by the U.S. and to finance U.S. world terrorism. And so the French people can starve to death. So yes, let's face it: The system of deseducation and brainwashing used by the plutocracy assures their victory, more exactly the elimination of 6.6 billion unneeded earthlings and the taking over of the planet by less than three thousand very wealthy and powerful individuals, all as predicted long, long ago. Not at all surprisingly, these victims will refuse to believe it right until their turn comes to suffer and die... and among the victims will be the entire populations of the United States and Israel. This will be their surprise: THAT THEY DO NOT BELONG TO THE INTERNATIONAL PLUTOCRACY !

7. DEPOPULATION AGENDA

There is just one reason for the need to depopulate the earth and it is not at all because the population of the earth exceeds proper limits because in fact, the earth is able to feed well over 10 billion persons. The reason for depopulation has been made clear for a very long time and is therefore perfectly known: The wealthy and powerful International Plutocracy has for final plan to remain the only owners of the planet. Many are those who claim that Extra-terrestrials are behind it all. Such an explanation makes a lot of sense but I am in no position at this time to discuss it in great detail. Furthermore, others are investigating the matter and as soon as possibble they will certainly make their findings public... and there is a lot which is presently kept secret by both the United States and the Israeli governments,

8. THE ONLY SOLUTION

At this point there is only one possible solution: UNIVERSAL EDUCATION. Possible, yes, but not exactly easy because it means:

1. Changing the system of education 2. Making sure that every student becomes able to... a) Read and write at least two languages. b) Know the basics of physiology and anatomy. c) Know Mathematics and Geometry. d) Have some religious knowledge but remain free to think and conclude. e) Learn self-discipline and self-sacrifice. 3. Enabling every person to judge, criticize and place criminal governments under arrest. 4. Understanding that U.S.-type freedom is actually a threat to real freedom. 5. And being aware that unless everything is changed, there will be no future for our species.

As you can see saving our species is at the same time easy and will not be allowed by no plutocracy-controlled government.

9. CONCLUSION

Having read all the above you will easily see that the conclusion is simply this: WAKE UP OR BE MURDERED. In other words YOU and YOU alone knows what will happen next.

10. OPINIONS

1. The following shows just one of the many, many ways the Plutocracy-led U.S., is completing its depopulation agenda, in this particular instance in India. But this is just an example. The same murderous behaviour is occurring the world over and is always based on the same principles:

(1) Enslave the people by preventing them from learning how to fight back. (2) Encourage the slaves to commit suicide. (3) Get full help from criminal governments such as the U.S. and U.K. (4) Allow the wealthy few to make money at the expense of the many poor.

When Prince Charles claimed thousands of Indian farmers were killing themselves after using GM crops, he was branded a scaremonger. In fact, as this chilling dispatch reveals, it's even WORSE than he feared.
The children were inconsolable. Mute with shock and fighting back tears, they huddled beside their mother as friends and neighbours prepared their father's body for cremation on a blazing bonfire built on the cracked, barren fields near their home.
As flames consumed the corpse, Ganjanan, 12, and Kalpana, 14, faced a grim future. While Shankara Mandaukar had hoped his son and daughter would have a better life under India's economic boom, they now face working as slave labour for a few pence a day. Landless and homeless, they will be the lowest of the low.

Human tragedy: A farmer and child in India's 'suicide belt'
Shankara, respected farmer, loving husband and father, had taken his own life. Less than 24 hours earlier, facing the loss of his land due to debt, he drank a cupful of chemical insecticide.
Unable to pay back the equivalent of two years' earnings, he was in despair. He could see no way out.
There were still marks in the dust where he had writhed in agony. Other villagers looked on - they knew from experience that any intervention was pointless - as he lay doubled up on the ground, crying out in pain and vomiting.
Moaning, he crawled on to a bench outside his simple home 100 miles from Nagpur in central India. An hour later, he stopped making any noise. Then he stopped breathing. At 5pm on Sunday, the life of Shankara Mandaukar came to an end.
As neighbours gathered to pray outside the family home, Nirmala Mandaukar, 50, told how she rushed back from the fields to find her husband dead. 'He was a loving and caring man,' she said, weeping quietly.
'But he couldn't take any more. The mental anguish was too much. We have lost everything.'
Shankara's crop had failed - twice. Of course, famine and pestilence are part of India's ancient story.
But the death of this respected farmer has been blamed on something far more modern and sinister: genetically modified crops.
Shankara, like millions of other Indian farmers, had been promised previously unheard of harvests and income if he switched from farming with traditional seeds to planting GM seeds instead.

Beguiled by the promise of future riches, he borrowed money in order to buy the GM seeds. But when the harvests failed, he was left with spiralling debts - and no income.
So Shankara became one of an estimated 125,000 farmers to take their own life as a result of the ruthless drive to use India as a testing ground for genetically modified crops.
The crisis, branded the 'GM Genocide' by campaigners, was highlighted recently when Prince Charles claimed that the issue of GM had become a 'global moral question' - and the time had come to end its unstoppable march.
Speaking by video link to a conference in the Indian capital, Delhi, he infuriated bio-tech leaders and some politicians by condemning 'the truly appalling and tragic rate of small farmer suicides in India, stemming... from the failure of many GM crop varieties'.
Ranged against the Prince are powerful GM lobbyists and prominent politicians, who claim that genetically modified crops have transformed Indian agriculture, providing greater yields than ever before. The rest of the world, they insist, should embrace 'the future' and follow suit.
So who is telling the truth? To find out, I travelled to the 'suicide belt' in Maharashtra state.
What I found was deeply disturbing - and has profound implications for countries, including Britain, debating whether to allow the planting of seeds manipulated by scientists to circumvent the laws of nature.
For official figures from the Indian Ministry of Agriculture do indeed confirm that in a huge humanitarian crisis, more than 1,000 farmers kill themselves here each month.
Simple, rural people, they are dying slow, agonising deaths. Most swallow insecticide - a pricey substance they were promised they would not need when they were coerced into growing expensive GM crops.
It seems that many are massively in debt to local money-lenders, having over-borrowed to purchase GM seed.
Pro-GM experts claim that it is rural poverty, alcoholism, drought and 'agrarian distress' that is the real reason for the horrific toll.
But, as I discovered during a four-day journey through the epicentre of the disaster, that is not the full story.

In one small village I visited, 18 farmers had committed suicide after being sucked into GM debts. In some cases, women have taken over farms from their dead husbands - only to kill themselves as well.
Latta Ramesh, 38, drank insecticide after her crops failed - two years after her husband disappeared when the GM debts became too much.
She left her ten-year-old son, Rashan, in the care of relatives. 'He cries when he thinks of his mother,' said the dead woman's aunt, sitting listlessly in shade near the fields.
Village after village, families told how they had fallen into debt after being persuaded to buy GM seeds instead of traditional cotton seeds.
The price difference is staggering: £10 for 100 grams of GM seed, compared with less than £10 for 1,000 times more traditional seeds.
But GM salesmen and government officials had promised farmers that these were 'magic seeds' - with better crops that would be free from parasites and insects.
Indeed, in a bid to promote the uptake of GM seeds, traditional varieties were banned from many government seed banks.
The authorities had a vested interest in promoting this new biotechnology. Desperate to escape the grinding poverty of the post-independence years, the Indian government had agreed to allow new bio-tech giants, such as the U.S. market-leader Monsanto, to sell their new seed creations.
In return for allowing western companies access to the second most populated country in the world, with more than one billion people, India was granted International Monetary Fund loans in the Eighties and Nineties, helping to launch an economic revolution.
But while cities such as Mumbai and Delhi have boomed, the farmers' lives have slid back into the dark ages.
Though areas of India planted with GM seeds have doubled in two years - up to 17 million acres - many famers have found there is a terrible price to be paid.
Far from being 'magic seeds', GM pest-proof 'breeds' of cotton have been devastated by bollworms, a voracious parasite.
Nor were the farmers told that these seeds require double the amount of water. This has proved a matter of life and death.
With rains failing for the past two years, many GM crops have simply withered and died, leaving the farmers with crippling debts and no means of paying them off.
Having taken loans from traditional money lenders at extortionate rates, hundreds of thousands of small farmers have faced losing their land as the expensive seeds fail, while those who could struggle on faced a fresh crisis.
When crops failed in the past, farmers could still save seeds and replant them the following year.
But with GM seeds they cannot do this. That's because GM seeds contain so- called 'terminator technology', meaning that they have been genetically modified so that the resulting crops do not produce viable seeds of their own.
As a result, farmers have to buy new seeds each year at the same punitive prices. For some, that means the difference between life and death.
Take the case of Suresh Bhalasa, another farmer who was cremated this week, leaving a wife and two children.
As night fell after the ceremony, and neighbours squatted outside while sacred cows were brought in from the fields, his family had no doubt that their troubles stemmed from the moment they were encouraged to buy BT Cotton, a geneticallymodified plant created by Monsanto.
'We are ruined now,' said the dead man's 38-year-old wife. 'We bought 100 grams of BT Cotton. Our crop failed twice. My husband had become depressed. He went out to his field, lay down in the cotton and swallowed insecticide.'
Villagers bundled him into a rickshaw and headed to hospital along rutted farm roads. 'He cried out that he had taken the insecticide and he was sorry,' she said, as her family and neighbours crowded into her home to pay their respects. 'He was dead by the time they got to hospital.'
Asked if the dead man was a 'drunkard' or suffered from other 'social problems', as alleged by pro-GM officials, the quiet, dignified gathering erupted in anger. 'No! No!' one of the dead man's brothers exclaimed. 'Suresh was a good man. He sent his children to school and paid his taxes.
'He was strangled by these magic seeds. They sell us the seeds, saying they will not need expensive pesticides but they do. We have to buy the same seeds from the same company every year. It is killing us. Please tell the world what is happening here.'
Monsanto has admitted that soaring debt was a 'factor in this tragedy'. But pointing out that cotton production had doubled in the past seven years, a spokesman added that there are other reasons for the recent crisis, such as 'untimely rain' or drought, and pointed out that suicides have always been part of rural Indian life.
Officials also point to surveys saying the majority of Indian farmers want GM seeds - no doubt encouraged to do so by aggressive marketing tactics.
During the course of my inquiries in Maharastra, I encountered three 'independent' surveyors scouring villages for information about suicides. They insisted that GM seeds were only 50 per cent more expensive - and then later admitted the difference was 1,000 per cent. (A Monsanto spokesman later insisted their seed is 'only double' the price of 'official' non-GM seed - but admitted that the difference can be vast if cheaper traditional seeds are sold by 'unscrupulous' merchants, who often also sell 'fake' GM seeds which are prone to disease.)
With rumours of imminent government compensation to stem the wave of deaths, many farmers said they were desperate for any form of assistance. 'We just want to escape from our problems,' one said. 'We just want help to stop any more of us dying.'
Prince Charles is so distressed by the plight of the suicide farmers that he is setting up a charity, the Bhumi Vardaan Foundation, to help those affected and promote organic Indian crops instead of GM.
India's farmers are also starting to fight back. As well as taking GM seed distributors hostage and staging mass protests, one state government is taking legal action against Monsanto for the exorbitant costs of GM seeds.
This came too late for Shankara Mandauker, who was 80,000 rupees (about £1,000) in debt when he took his own life. 'I told him that we can survive,' his widow said, her children still by her side as darkness fell. 'I told him we could find a way out. He just said it was better to die.'
But the debt does not die with her husband: unless she can find a way of paying it off, she will not be able to afford the children's schooling. They will lose their land, joining the hordes seen begging in their thousands by the roadside throughout this vast, chaotic country.
Cruelly, it's the young who are suffering most from the 'GM Genocide' - the very generation supposed to be lifted out of a life of hardship and misery by these 'magic seeds'.
Here in the suicide belt of India, the cost of the genetically modified future is murderously high.

Controversial fluoride is one of the basic ingredients in both PROZAC (FLUoxetene Hydrochloride) and Sarin nerve gas (Isopropyl-Methyl- Phosphoryl FLUoride).
Sodium fluoride, a hazardous-waste by-product from the manufacture of aluminum, is a common ingredient in rat and cockroach poisons, anesthetics, hypnotics, psychiatric drugs, and military nerve gas. It's historically been quite expensive to properly dispose of, until some aluminum industries with an overabundance of the stuff sold the public on the terrifically insane but highly profitable idea of buying it at a 20,000% markup, injecting it into our water supplies, and then DRINKING it.
Yes, a 20,000% markup: Fluoride -- intended only for human consumption by people under 14 years of age -- is injected into our drinking water supply at approx. 1 part-per-million (ppm), but since we only drink 1/2 of one percent of the total water supply, the rest literally goes down the drain as a free hazardous-waste disposal for the chemical industry, where we PAY them so that we can flush their expensive hazardous waste down our toilets. How many salesmen dream of such a deal? (Follow the money.)
Independent scientific evidence repeatedly showing up over the past 50 years reveals that fluoride allegedly shortens our life span, promotes cancer and various mental disturbances, accelerates osteoporosis and broken hips in old folks, and makes us stupid, docile, and subservient, all in one package. There are reports of aluminum in the brain possibly being a causative factor in Alzheimer's Disease, and evidence points towards fluoride's strong affinity for aluminum and also its ability to "trick" the blood-brain barrier by looking like the hydrogen ion, and thus allowing chemical access to brain tissue.
Scientists who have attempted to blow the whistle on this mega-bucks PR ploy have consistently been given a very unscientific Black-PR treatment, and thus their valid points disputing the current vested interests never arrive in the press.

Follow the money to find the control.

In 1952 the slick PR campaign which ram-rodded the concept of fluoridation through via our Public Health departments and various dental organizations was likened to a highly-emotional "beer-salesman' s convention" instead of the objective scientific experiment which it should properly have been. It's continued in that vein right up to present time.
To illustrate the emotional vs. the scientific nature of this issue, just look at the response given by people (perhaps yourself included?) when the subject of fluoridation comes up. Ask yourself, "Is this response EMOTIONAL BLUSTER, or is it UNBIASED AND OPENLY- INTERESTED OBJECTIVITY? "
There is a tremendous amount of emotional, highly unscientific know-it-all attached to fluoridation. Many truly independent (unattached to any vested-interest) scientists who've spent a large portion of their lives studying and working with this subject have been subjected to a surprising amount of uncalled-for and unfair character assassination from strong vested-interest groups who profit from the public's ignorance as well as from their illnesses. Do you have diabetes or kidney disease? There are reportedly more than 11 million Americans with diabetes. Since many diabetics drink more liquids than other people, then according to the Physicians Desk Reference these 11 million Americans probably shouldn't drink fluoridated water, because in doing so, they'll receive an excessive dose of fluoride.
Kidney disease, by definition, lowers the efficiency of the kidneys, which is your main route of fluoride elimination. -- So those people with kidney disease also shouldn't drink fluoridated water. Cases are on record (Annapolis, Maryland, 1979) where kidney patients on dialysis machines died, due to a fluoride overdose in the city water supply.
Let's begin at the beginning: The first occurrence of fluoridated drinking water on Earth was found in Germany's Nazi prison camps. The Gestapo had little concern about fluoride's supposed effect on children's teeth; their alleged reason for mass-medicating water with sodium fluoride was to sterilize humans and force the people in their concentration camps into calm submission. The following letter was received by the Lee Foundation for Nutritional Research, Milwaukee Wisconsin, on 2 October 1954, from Mr. Charles Perkins, a chemist: "I have your letter of September 29 asking for further documentation regarding a statement made in my book, The Truth About Water Fluoridation, to the effect that the idea of water fluoridation was brought to England from Russia by the Russian Communist Kreminoff. "In the 1930's, Hitler and the German Nazi's envisioned a world to be dominated and controlled by a Nazi philosophy of pan-Germanism. The German chemists worked out a very ingenious and far-reaching plan of mass-control which was submitted to and adopted by the German General Staff. This plan was to control the population in any given area through mass medication of drinking water supplies. By this method they could control the population in whole areas, reduce population by water medication that would produce sterility in women, and so on. In this scheme of mass-control, sodium fluoride occupied a prominent place. ...
[i]"Repeated doses of infinitesimal amounts of fluoride will in time reduce an individual's power to resist domination, by slowly poisoning and narcotizing a certain area of the brain, thus making him submissive to the will of those who wish to govern him.” [A convenient light lobotomy]

November 16, 2008 "Truthdig" -- - We live in two Americas. One America, now the minority, functions in a print-based, literate world. It can cope with complexity and has the intellectual tools to separate illusion from truth. The other America, which constitutes the majority, exists in a non-reality-based belief system. This America, dependent on skillfully manipulated images for information, has severed itself from the literate, print-based culture. It cannot differentiate between lies and truth. It is informed by simplistic, childish narratives and clichés. It is thrown into confusion by ambiguity, nuance and self-reflection. This divide, more than race, class or gender, more than rural or urban, believer or nonbeliever, red state or blue state, has split the country into radically distinct, unbridgeable and antagonistic entities.
There are over 42 million American adults, 20 percent of whom hold high school diplomas, who cannot read, as well as the 50 million who read at a fourth- or fifth-grade level. Nearly a third of the nation’s population is illiterate or barely literate. And their numbers are growing by an estimated 2 million a year. But even those who are supposedly literate retreat in huge numbers into this image-based existence. A third of high school graduates, along with 42 percent of college graduates, never read a book after they finish school. Eighty percent of the families in the United States last year did not buy a book.
The illiterate rarely vote, and when they do vote they do so without the ability to make decisions based on textual information. American political campaigns, which have learned to speak in the comforting epistemology of images, eschew real ideas and policy for cheap slogans and reassuring personal narratives. Political propaganda now masquerades as ideology. Political campaigns have become an experience. They do not require cognitive or self-critical skills. They are designed to ignite pseudo-religious feelings of euphoria, empowerment and collective salvation. Campaigns that succeed are carefully constructed psychological instruments that manipulate fickle public moods, emotions and impulses, many of which are subliminal. They create a public ecstasy that annuls individuality and fosters a state of mindlessness. They thrust us into an eternal present. They cater to a nation that now lives in a state of permanent amnesia. It is style and story, not content or history or reality, which inform our politics and our lives. We prefer happy illusions. And it works because so much of the American electorate, including those who should know better, blindly cast ballots for slogans, smiles, the cheerful family tableaux, narratives and the perceived sincerity and the attractiveness of candidates. We confuse how we feel with knowledge.
The illiterate and semi-literate, once the campaigns are over, remain powerless. They still cannot protect their children from dysfunctional public schools. They still cannot understand predatory loan deals, the intricacies of mortgage papers, credit card agreements and equity lines of credit that drive them into foreclosures and bankruptcies. They still struggle with the most basic chores of daily life from reading instructions on medicine bottles to filling out bank forms, car loan documents and unemployment benefit and insurance papers. They watch helplessly and without comprehension as hundreds of thousands of jobs are shed. They are hostages to brands. Brands come with images and slogans. Images and slogans are all they understand. Many eat at fast food restaurants not only because it is cheap but because they can order from pictures rather than menus. And those who serve them, also semi-literate or illiterate, punch in orders on cash registers whose keys are marked with symbols and pictures. This is our brave new world.
Political leaders in our post-literate society no longer need to be competent, sincere or honest. They only need to appear to have these qualities. Most of all they need a story, a narrative. The reality of the narrative is irrelevant. It can be completely at odds with the facts. The consistency and emotional appeal of the story are paramount. The most essential skill in political theater and the consumer culture is artifice. Those who are best at artifice succeed. Those who have not mastered the art of artifice fail. In an age of images and entertainment, in an age of instant emotional gratification, we do not seek or want honesty. We ask to be indulged and entertained by clichés, stereotypes and mythic narratives that tell us we can be whomever we want to be, that we live in the greatest country on Earth, that we are endowed with superior moral and physical qualities and that our glorious future is preordained, either because of our attributes as Americans or because we are blessed by God or both.
The ability to magnify these simple and childish lies, to repeat them and have surrogates repeat them in endless loops of news cycles, gives these lies the aura of an uncontested truth. We are repeatedly fed words or phrases like yes we can, maverick, change, pro-life, hope or war on terror. It feels good not to think. All we have to do is visualize what we want, believe in ourselves and summon those hidden inner resources, whether divine or national, that make the world conform to our desires. Reality is never an impediment to our advancement.
The Princeton Review analyzed the transcripts of the Gore-Bush debates, the Clinton-Bush-Perot debates of 1992, the Kennedy-Nixon debates of 1960 and the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858. It reviewed these transcripts using a standard vocabulary test that indicates the minimum educational standard needed for a reader to grasp the text. During the 2000 debates, George W. Bush spoke at a sixth-grade level (6.7) and Al Gore at a seventh-grade level (7.6). In the 1992 debates, Bill Clinton spoke at a seventh-grade level (7.6), while George H.W. Bush spoke at a sixth-grade level (6., as did H. Ross Perot (6.3). In the debates between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, the candidates spoke in language used by 10th-graders. In the debates of Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas the scores were respectively 11.2 and 12.0. In short, today’s political rhetoric is designed to be comprehensible to a 10-year-old child or an adult with a sixth-grade reading level. It is fitted to this level of comprehension because most Americans speak, think and are entertained at this level. This is why serious film and theater and other serious artistic expression, as well as newspapers and books, are being pushed to the margins of American society. Voltaire was the most famous man of the 18th century. Today the most famous “person” is Mickey Mouse.
In our post-literate world, because ideas are inaccessible, there is a need for constant stimulus. News, political debate, theater, art and books are judged not on the power of their ideas but on their ability to entertain. Cultural products that force us to examine ourselves and our society are condemned as elitist and impenetrable. Hannah Arendt warned that the marketization of culture leads to its degradation, that this marketization creates a new celebrity class of intellectuals who, although well read and informed themselves, see their role in society as persuading the masses that “Hamlet” can be as entertaining as “The Lion King” and perhaps as educational. “Culture,” she wrote, “is being destroyed in order to yield entertainment.”
“There are many great authors of the past who have survived centuries of oblivion and neglect,” Arendt wrote, “but it is still an open question whether they will be able to survive an entertaining version of what they have to say.”
The change from a print-based to an image-based society has transformed our nation. Huge segments of our population, especially those who live in the embrace of the Christian right and the consumer culture, are completely unmoored from reality. They lack the capacity to search for truth and cope rationally with our mounting social and economic ills. They seek clarity, entertainment and order. They are willing to use force to impose this clarity on others, especially those who do not speak as they speak and think as they think. All the traditional tools of democracies, including dispassionate scientific and historical truth, facts, news and rational debate, are useless instruments in a world that lacks the capacity to use them.
As we descend into a devastating economic crisis, one that Barack Obama cannot halt, there will be tens of millions of Americans who will be ruthlessly thrust aside. As their houses are foreclosed, as their jobs are lost, as they are forced to declare bankruptcy and watch their communities collapse, they will retreat even further into irrational fantasy. They will be led toward glittering and self-destructive illusions by our modern Pied Pipers—our corporate advertisers, our charlatan preachers, our television news celebrities, our self-help gurus, our entertainment industry and our political demagogues—who will offer increasingly absurd forms of escapism.
The core values of our open society, the ability to think for oneself, to draw independent conclusions, to express dissent when judgment and common sense indicate something is wrong, to be self-critical, to challenge authority, to understand historical facts, to separate truth from lies, to advocate for change and to acknowledge that there are other views, different ways of being, that are morally and socially acceptable, are dying. Obama used hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign funds to appeal to and manipulate this illiteracy and irrationalism to his advantage, but these forces will prove to be his most deadly nemesis once they collide with the awful reality that awaits us.

That said, when you claimed that Albert Einstein was an 'atheist' in the 'what is theb est form of government' thread, I countered by posting a direct quote from Mr. Einstein himself saying that he is not an atheist, clearly proving wrong what you had said. Also in the 'Open letter to atheist scientists' thread, I posted an article containing the actual mathmatical odds of 'spontaneous order' that you claim to be true, which clearly show the enormous impossibility of such a theory, to any rational mind.

That said, when you claimed that Albert Einstein was an 'atheist' in the 'what is theb est form of government' thread, I countered by posting a direct quote from Mr. Einstein himself saying that he is not an atheist, clearly proving wrong what you had said. Also in the 'Open letter to atheist scientists' thread, I posted an article containing the actual mathmatical odds of 'spontaneous order' that you claim to be true, which clearly show the enormous impossibility of such a theory, to any rational mind.
