This is an audience document of Rage Against The Machine's entire performance during the Philadelphia stop of the 1993 edition of Lollapalooza. The Wikipedia entry describes it best:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_against_...ne#PMRC_protest

At a 1993 Lollapalooza appearance in Philadelphia, the band stood onstage naked for 15 minutes with duct tape on their mouths and the letters PMRC painted on their chests in protest against censorship by the Parents Music Resource Center. The only sound emitted was audio feedback from Morello and Commerford's guitars. Regarding this event, Wilk said "The first ten minutes they were going nuts, but after ten minutes they were getting pissed." The band later played a free show for disappointed fans.

“Want me to be perfectly frank? The size of my penis — that's what was going through my mind in Philadelphia. It looked like I'd just stepped out of the ocean. I swear to God, it's bigger than that. So I was thinking: I wish I'd worn boxer shorts before instead of briefs, because briefs kinda like constrict me. I took them off and it was this ... half-roll of nickels.” — Tim Commerford

“I was thinking about how the wind felt underneath my scrotum, what the people in the front were thinking, and all the cameras flashing and what they were going to be thinking as they developed their film. Actually, doing that was no big deal. It didn't freak me out. That's how we all came into the world. It's a liberating thing.” — Brad Wilk, Modern Drummer

^Seriously? Its just the feedback?

Thanks for letting me know before I wasted time. Obviously, video of this incident would make more sense than audio. If there's no video, oh well...

--------------------
I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us, you're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end, I came here to tell you how this is going to begin. Now, I'm going to hang up this phone, and I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world...where anything is possible.
Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

So... if it's just feedback then how do we know if it's even real?

As the original taper, I can assure you, it's real. My friend who attended the show with me (who helped to smuggle in blank tapes) will back me up on this.
