I was having dinner in Marina del rey when he walked in. I wasn't sure it was him, but after he ordered his food I went up to him and introduced myself. I told him he was my fav. singer ever. He was happy to hear that I read indymedia. We talked about that for a few mins. I asked him about his album, he said he's taking a break from it right now, doesn't know when he will return to record more tracks. He was such a cool guy to talk to. I'm still starstruck. I didn't want to be tacky and ask for his autograph or picture.

Just thought I'd share the highlight of my day.

Peace.

Yes, lucky you. But the thing about the album makes me sad. Just a little recapitulation:

July 3, 2003- "album in this year for sure"
Oct 28, 2003- "album in 2004"
Aug 7, 2004- "album in late 2005"
Mar 28, 2006- "taking a break"

So, now it´s clear that the album won´t be released this year like i hoped. I´m loosing my last pieces of patience.

I couldn't just let him walk by. I wouldn't want to act all stupid and crazy, but i would have to say something.

I would have attempted to say "hi" and wave, but I know I'd look like a damn dork...

From the moment he walked in, I got butterflies in my stomach. It was one of those once in a lifetime chances to meet him, so I gathered up some courage and went up to him. He was totally cool with it.

As for his album, the way he was explaining it and his facial expressions gave me the feeling that he was sick of it. Which is sad.

I can see that. He can always write his poetry, but he'll never be able to make music the way Rage could. I just don't think that combination can be recreated. I think he should write a book or something.

But i think he doesn´t want to make music like Rage. That´s why he left them and why he worked with all these great artists like DJ Shadow, LP, ?uestlove, DJ Premier, Roni Size, Reznor, and Son de madera lastly. I mean what else he would want? I thought he had a writing block or something but now i think he is not satisfied with the music. alright so maybe next year...

That's cool that you saw him and spoke with him! smile.gif
As for the taking a break from recording the solo cd and looking like he's sick of it...hmm...
I think Grimer might be right "posthumous".
Well at this point as long as he's still active, out there and plays something new now and then, I'll be happy.
