I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I wake in the morning,
Fold my hands and pray for rain.
I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin' me insane.
It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
Well, he hands you a nickel,
He hands you a dime,
He asks you with a grin
If you're havin' a good time,
Then he fines you every time you slam the door.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
Well, he puts his cigar
Out in your face just for kicks.
His bedroom window
It is made out of bricks.
The National Guard stands around his door.
Ah, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
Well, she talks to all the servants
About man and God and law.
Everybody says
She's the brains behind pa.
She's sixty-eight, but she says she's twenty-four.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
But everybody wants you
To be just like them.
They sing while you slave and I just get bored.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

Same symbolism in both versions, its about everything you do is controlled by the System, the Machine, the fat neckless old retards.

The individuals themselves are a powerful part of the song.
For myself, this is some of the meaning I took from each verse

Maggie's brother is an example of a company and how money and material wealth is now the most important thing in the world, and is the only focus of business. It seems like he's doing you a favour, looking out for you and rewarding you for good work (Well, he hands you a nickel, He hands you a dime, He asks you with a grin If you're havin' a good time), but then screw you from behind for profit and selfish gain or takes you to court if you disobey (Then he fines you every time you slam the door). He could be seen as the company the working man and woman (slaves in this example) are working for.

Maggie's father is the cruel, cowardly taskmaster, able to beat you senseless, probing for a reaction to warrant more abuse. He needs to exert his masculinity and try to prove he is "superior", but he hides in a fortress (His bedroom window It is made out of bricks. The National Guard stands around his door), scared of someone who will actually retaliate because in reality he is nothing but scum. Upon further reflection, he could be an example of how unjust and unforgiving the system is, and how powerless you are to resist because the government and the tools at disposal (National Guard is the given example) will back up company over the average worker everytime.

Maggie's ma is the poison spoon fed to us from an early age; believe this, this and this, because I said so. This is the right way, because I said so. I dunno about "she's the brains behind pa", but I guess this means she is a metaphor for religion, and how she is the controlling factor in everything pa (govt./police/military) does. She tries to seem new and in touch so as to relate more to each generation (She's sixty-eight, but she says she's twenty-four.)

Disagree or call me an idiot but that is how I see it. The song is about how each of these factors breaks you down into a slave, only to further profit them (They sing while you slave).

“To be or not to be”. Outside the Bible, there six words are the most famous in all the literature of the world. They were spoken by Hamlet when he was thinking aloud, and they are the most famous words in Shakespeare because Hamlet was speaking not only foe himself but for every thinking man and woman. To be or not to be-to live or not to live, to live richly and abundantly and eagerly, or to live dully and meanly and scarcely. A philosopher once wanted to know whether he was alive or not, which is a good question for everyone to put to himself occasionally. He answered it by saying:“I think, therefore I am.”(wow gold)

But the best definition of existence I ever saw was one written by another philosopher who said:“To be is to be in relations.”If this is true, then the more relations a living thing has, the more relations a living thing has, the more it is alive. To live abundantly means simply to increase the range and intensity of our relations. Unfortunately we are so constituted that we get to love our routine. But apart from our regular occupation how much are we alive? If you are interested only in your regular occupation, you are alive only to that extent. So far as other things are concerned-poetry and prose, music, pictures, sports, unselfish friendships, politics, international affairs-you are dead.

Contrariwise, it is true that every time you acquire a new interest-even more, a new accomplishment-you increase your power of life. No one who is deeply interested in a large variety of subjects can remain unhappy, the real pessimist is the person who has lost interest.

Bacon said that a man dies as often as he loss a friend. But we gain new life by contacts, new friends. What is supremely true of living objects is only less true of ideas, which are also alive. Where your thoughts are, there will your life be also. If your thoughts are confined only to your business, only to your physical welfare, only to the narrow circle of the town in which you live, then you live in a narrow circle of the town in which you live, then you live in a narrow circumscribed life. But if you are interested in what is going on in China, then you are living in China; if you are interested in the characters of a good novel, then you are living with those highly interesting people; if you listen intently to fine music, you are away from your immediate surroundings and living in a world of passion and imagination.wow gold

To be or not to be-to live intensely and richly, or merely to exist, that depends on ourselves. Let us widen and intensify our relations. While we live, let us live!

Sunshine,
AAWWWW!, You're Beautiful!.
It is also said ,"Love thy neighbor as thyself."
This is something which I find difficult to do at times.
Especially GWB.
Maggies Farm is about a slave who escaped from shitty conditions.
And Rage's version is fucking cool, fucky and rockin.
I wonder what Bob Dylan thinks of Rage's version?
Bob Dylan, if you read this, you were wiondering "How does it feel?"
It feels fucking awesome!.

*facepalm*

Sunshine is either a bot or a human link farming for World of Warcraft gold (note the two links in the post). The above is almost-assuredly a copy-paste from somewhere else, designed to not evoke suspicion.
